Upcoming Campaign News!

Hi everyone! First off, just wanted to let you all know that we’re re-shuffling our website a bit so you’ll see some welcome changes to it. Currently, there’s a “Character’s List” tab that shows the characters from Fairytale Games: The Battle Royale, the Fairytale Expansion, Legends of Time Expansion, and the Teaser Pack. Soon, we will update it with the characters you’ll see in Horror Edition, Steampunk Edition, and Zombie Edition.

Another section you’ll see us grow in the next few weeks, is the “Our Artists” tab. We have listed our current artists (and will update the list with additional ones who join our team) and will start showing off their work with new cards from time to time. We’ve actually received a lot of artwork so far, but have not released them online yet. So please check often! (Most likely whenever you see an update here, that’s a good hint that we also uploaded some cool new illustrations.)

We temporarily took down the Rules/Gameplay tab and will be re-releasing it with a more detailed version, starting from basic to more advanced mechanics. We’re a little behind on this because of a new addition ….. (I’m foreshadowing here.)

What’s coming to Kickstarter?

As we hinted, there’s a few exciting things we’re doing for our upcoming campaign, most of which were a compilation of backer requests and suggestions that we really liked a lot!

One of our focuses in the campaign, will be Minis. Just by skimming our list of characters, there are so many awesome characters we can bring to life from our Fairytale World that would look pretty awesome next to the minis you’ll be getting from our last campaign. But what would make this campaign more than just a bunch of figures? There’s actually a game element to it that will be a standalone dungeon tactic game that can also combine with the main Fairytale Games. Because of its relation, we’re calling it Fairytale Games: Hero Quests. We’ll be offering a couple of quest scenarios that include 24 minis (10 unique sculpts) in each box. Some of these characters were suggestions from the recent mini voting (yep, we were listening!) And because of its design, you can re-create different Hero Quest scenarios from our games.

Ok, tell me about the minis!

Artistic Justice is proud to reveal that the company working with us to bring you top quality minis, is none other than Greenbrier Games! You may know them as the ones that brought us the awesome Zpocalypse series. For those who don’t know, check them out here:

Another thing to note is that our sculpts are created also by an award-winning sculptor who has done work for BioShock’s action figure line as well as many of the top Minis for games many of you have already backed on Kickstarter, such as High Heavens and more!

For the tech specs, our Minis will be 30mm for normal human characters and 40mm for larger “boss” monsters. They will be plastic pieces done using injection moulding and will come unpainted. For more details, be sure to check out our upcoming campaign 🙂

But what if Minis aren’t our thing?

That’s ok too since we are releasing a DIFFERENT standalone and combinable card game (without minis) at the same time! Our campaign is set up a bit uniquely so that you can go the card game route or the minis route and still receive very interesting stretch goals.

The new game is called Fairytale Games: Escape! Basically, the game begins in a holding area for all the prospective champions the Queens have gathered. Your goal is to escape with or without the help of others who are also trapped in confinement. This is our parody of the several “Prison Escape” themes out there, minus the bar of soap and racy humor. The Queens deem Prison Escape as a test, a prerequisite to be exact. Those who escape, end up worthy to participate in the Fairytale Games. Those who don’t….. just rot behind bars. The cards from Fairytale Games: Battle Royale can cross-over into this game, making the large lineup of characters available to you at get-go. More on this game coming soon!

Any Cool Add-Ons and Stretch Goals?

You bet! By popular demand, we’re expanding on the Super Fairytale Fighters 2 line as well as offering a few things specifically requested like artbooks for Horror/Steampunk/Zombie, more cheesecakery, some of our past campaign items, as well as a few surprises (one that was something I had a personal hand in…LOL).

For Stretch Goals, I can’t really say much. But, we are working with the awesomeSlamfist Media to expand upon the fight scenarios and some of our own character stories in something that MIGHT resemble an illustrated, hardcover storybook kind of thing. And as to whether you’ll see anything like our crazy Special Editions again during this campaign? As a one word hint, I give you ….. Pantheon.

When is the Campaign?

Good question! We were planning for the last week of August, but because of a few things we’d like to surprise you with, we are taking the time to finish them first, then launching either on Monday, September 2nd or 9th. When we have a solid date, we’ll announce our Facebook/Website launch party date where we’ll release the Kickstarter Campaign link and offer some pretty fun prizes and promos on Day-1. Looking forward to see you then! (And yes, this time we’ll make sure that everyone knows it’s Central Standard Time. LOL).

I know it’s been asked but…. will backers of the last campaign get

something for backing the next campaign?

Do you even need to ask? Of course! But I can’t say what it is because the team has started looking over my shoulder as I write this and is waving a stapler around my head. So for now, it’s a secret.

Card Highlight!

Today’s card is from the story of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and is a character from our Fairytale Expansion…. Esmeralda! To tell you about her character, she’s an alchemist, chemist, and can create any number of poisons from the combines of fruits, insects, and reptiles. She’s trained to be a master assassin and uses her attractive nature and supply of concoctions to get in close and paralyze or kill her opponents, stealing whatever loot or information they might have.

Enjoy the beautiful illustration from Kiki and get to know her more during our highlight on Quasimodo at a later time.

It’s All in the Cards…

Today’s update is a quick one just to let Magic Mirror tiers and White Rabbit tiers, that are receiving their likeness on a Tarot Card, know that we are starting the “first dibs” process right now. We’ve made a spreadsheet that has all the Tarot Cards available for your likeness to be on. Based on info from the Backer Surveys, anyone who has already requested a certain card will already be on the spreadsheet (if multiple backers requested the same card, we gave it to the first in line.) If you need to change anything, please send me a message.

For the list, please visit:

When you get there, please “Make a comment” on the card you’d like your likeness on. Please be aware that you can not edit any of the fields in the spreadsheet so you will need to leave a comment and put your Kickstarter name on it.

I know this is kind of a weird comment but I feel I must make this disclaimer (since this kind of happened already), but if, for example, you are choosing a King card or a Queen card, please make sure that you (or the person you are doing this for) matches the gender of the card. It helps keep our artists from freaking out 😉

Wait, but I’m a cheesecake backer and still haven’t gotten to pick my card likeness!

Don’t worry, we’re simultaneously doing this and have different artists doing the Tarot Cards and Cheesecake Cards. If you haven’t already given us your photo via e-mail, you still have time. But please try to get it to us soon so we can schedule it in with our artists. If you haven’t yet selected which character you want your likeness on, please see our list here:

So it is August …. any news on the new campaign?

Yes! Our next official update will be all about the new campaign with dates and a teaser of things to come. Stay tuned!

Slamfist Media in the heat of the action!

While the year of waiting for the release of Fairytale Games will be spread out with news, card/gameplay highlights, and some other exciting stuff, Slamfist Media will be introducing something a bit different that you all can look forward to. Starting very soon, they will be releasing “Battle Scenarios”, short stories that take you into a possible battle between characters forced to participate in the Fairytale Games. We’ll be giving Slamfist Media a bit of inside info on some of the character backstories as well as certain trademark moves that we’ve incorporated in the game. All of which you might get a good sample of during epic face-offs. Who would win between the likes of The Beast versus The Cowardly Lion, Pinocchio vs the Nutcracker Prince? The possibilities are exciting! So think of some characters you’d like hear battle replays of and make a comment here or directly to Slamfist Media!

Card Highlight

Today’s highlight is another great piece by J.Ang, the talented artist that brought you Trinity and Hook. Once again, he gives us another beautiful illustration, this time of one not so beautiful….. Rumplestiltskin! This devious imp has a very high persuasion value and is one of the few characters that offer you none. Everything about him is about exchanges that give him the advantage and seeing other fairytale characters suffer in some complex scheme. Looking forward to expand on his story with you! (By the way, check out the Gold Thread he uses as a choke wire in the artwork!)

Our First Bi-Weekly Schedule!

Hi Everyone, just a quick note that we’re progressing pretty well into the artwork. Here is our current schedule for the next two weeks:

  • Advanced Battle Mode Video on our Website
  • Revised Easy Battle Mode Video on our Website
  • We will revise our gallery to start introducing our artists on our website
  • Minis Official Announcement
  • We will clear our Rules section on our website and start a NEW gameplay mechanics section from scratch (making the rules easier to understand). We will update this in several segments to cover everything about the game and all special edition gameplay mechanics.
  • Tarot Card Likeness selection will begin
  • More ways to show off our new artwork with Card Highlights 🙂

As of now, we are starting the artwork for the Cheesecake cards (and the likenesses of backers on them.) We are also continuing to produce artwork at a great pace with now 20 artists!!! You’ll start seeing more of them as we move forward as we showcase the card art we hand-picked for them. Be prepared!

Card Highlight

Today’s card highlight is from our Steampunk Edition. There were a lot of backers curious about if there were any differences on the cards themselves. If you notice, there is a new trait (identified by the “Gear” icon). This is called the “Machina” trait which will be applied towards Engineering or the controlling of certain items, abilities, or ….. vehicles???

Also, on the bottom right by the artist name and our company name, there is a “wrench” icon which represents the Steampunk Edition. All editions and expansions will have their own icon to help you differentiate the cards, though for the most part you can pretty much look at the cards and figure out where they belong. Tinker Bell in a mech suit? nope, I guess that’s not Zombie Edition 😉

Anyway, let me present to you another awesome illustration from Kiki. Introducing …. our Steampunk version of the Town Musicians of Bremen. Enjoy!

Card Highlight

As a follow up to the comments section of yesterday’s update, back from our initial campaign is the artist who brought you Alice. Marcus Davis proudly brings you…. The Little Match Girl!

Carrie was actually born into a warm and loving Royal family, with a mother of beautiful golden hair, a father who was in line to become King and an older sister who loved her dearly. They were very happy and had no hardship in life.

Then one fateful day, the King was murdered by a treacherous conspiracy and her father who tried to save him, became a victim of his step-brother’s ruthlessness to claim the crown for himself. Fleeing quickly, Carrie, her mother and sister ran into the woods hoping to escape death. But before they could make it to safety, her sister was taken for the new King while Carrie and her Mother were pushed into a raging river and left to die.

Washed up, Carrie and her Mother were saved by a gruff man who lived in the woods with his two children. After a few months of hiding and being under the care of the woodsman, Carrie’s mother decides to accept his proposal for marriage as gratitude for saving their lives.

Although things seemed to settle down, the woodsman started having nightmares and said he was seeing visions of his dead wife. He took to the ale to numb his senses. After time, he started losing his temper often, then began physically abusing his wife and children. He would go off for days without letting anyone know and come back completely sloshed with not a penny in his pocket and only the sweet scent of cherry blossoms around his neck. When Carrie’s Mom would ask, he would ram her face into the wall, bind and gag her or worse. All the while Carrie was helpless to do anything or she would be receive the same treatment as well. The woodsman’s children were terrors themselves as they blamed Carrie and her mother for their Father’s sudden change of personality. Carrie became their personal punching bag from that point on.

Months later, the family had no money to survive. Everything was gambled away. So the woodsman decides to make Carrie go to town to sell matchsticks he’d cut up the night before. If she didn’t sell her quota, she would be beaten. Weeks pass and barely anything was sold. The woodsman told Carrie that if she did not bring back 10 pieces of silver, she could not come home. If she tried, he would kill her Mother and her in one swing of his axe.

Determined to sell every last matchstick in the dead of winter, Carrie stayed in town begging the townspeople to spare a penny or two. The snow fell deeper and the cold became unbearable to the flesh. Carrie huddled in the corner of an alley, lighting matches one after another to stay warm. With each match she lit, she could see the images of her real father, her sister, her mother and the beautiful life they had before. Carrie began to feel her heart slow as the chattering of her teeth became louder. As things became black Carrie prayed for her Mom’s safety, then nothing.

Suddenly, Carrie’s eyes shot open to the sound of a distant wolf and the smell of….. roast meat?  She looked about and saw that she was bundled in a blanket in front of a campfire that was cooking what looked to be a wolf.

“Eat.” Said a mysterious man. “You need strength if we are to get you home.”

Frightened, Carrie ate not saying a word to the stranger, not even making eye contact. Before long, the man stood up and the glint of his strange sword reflected the light of the full moon.

“Let us go. Your home is up ahead.”

After walking for 10 miles, they approached the woodsman’s cabin. As they got closer, the smell of death and copper became suffocating. Looking in horror, Carrie saw blood everywhere. Streaks on the walls, pools on the ground; everywhere that was once white from the snow, was now a dark, putrid red. Crying out in fear, Carrie called for her mother.

The mysterious man took Carrie’s hand and ventured towards the cabin. When they opened the door, flies buzzed about as they saw a man, crumpled on the floor with all of his bones broken and his body mangled in physical positions no humans could naturally hope to accomplish. Carie eventually saw the victim’s head and recognized him as her step-father.  Strangely enough, she didn’t feel ill or even a bit of sadness. What she felt….. was closure.

The stranger released Carrie’s hand and picked up a piece of blood soaked parchment stuck to the floor. Bewildered, he let it fall back in its place.

“Your language puzzles me.”

As Carrie followed him out the door, her eye caught a glimpse of the paper that started off with “There was a crooked man, and he went a crooked mile…”

Carrie and the man searched the entire house and not a soul was found. The man stood still as Carrie watched. He didn’t move for what seemed like eternity. Suddenly, the man turned to Carrie and crouched down to her eye level.

“Do you want revenge on the man who took everything away from you?” Carrie nodded. “Then you will dedicate your life to me. You will be my cub and I, a lone wolf no more. We will remove your heart of pain and fill it instead, with Justice.”

Carrie nodded again, but was surprised when the man handed her the matches she was supposed to sell.

“To move forward freely, you must not let the roots of your past hold you down….. Burn it.” Carrie then understood. She would help her family find Justice with her own tiny hands.

With a few strikes of her matches and the large blaze of fire behind her, she and the mysterious man together took their first step forward. No longer was she little helpless Carrie. Rather, she was on her way to be known as the Little Match Girl.

Knowing in her heart that her mother was somehow alive, she later wondered whatever happened to the woodsman’s children. Funny that at the time, no one bothered to check the well.
