Picking up Abandoned Pledges!

Hi Everyone,

This is an update for those who want to pledge for abandoned pledges in both our Battle Royale and Minis Campaign Kickstarter. (Disclaimer: If you’re not interested in picking up a rare Lion King pledge or any from the Minis campaign, ignore this entire update).

We just finished populating our online store and are ready to release them to you. We only uploaded the store with pledges that have been refunded or are in the process of refunds, nothing more.

Later, when we do have product inventory in, we will populate the site with them but at a close to MSRP pricing. So get these pledges WITH their original Kickstarter Stretch Goals while you can here:

http://artisticjusticegames.com/shop/

A VERY important thing to note…. all products will have to have shipping. Because our online store isn’t very innovative, we can’t separate the shipping for purchases from both campaigns. So instead of giving ourselves a headache, we’re going to eat some of the shipping costs. US is free where everywhere else is $25. This ends up being a cheaper for some countries and a bit more expensive for others. As well, for Battle Royale it’s more expensive, but for the Minis Campaign it’s cheaper than our campaign shipping. So I guess it’s a compromise 🙂

Ok, stay tuned for next time, when we have our regular scheduled update!

Some news to kick off January!

Hi Everyone,

With the dropping temperatures and gross weather we’re having here, hope everyone is staying warm and safe! Today’s update has a few big things going for it so let’s get right down with it.

The Demo Kit?

Yep, it’s finally here in all its glory! Still, there’s a few things we need to first mention before you start downloading. The demo kit has roughly 160 cards in total. In a nutshell, it will showcase about 75% of the gameplay mechanics, just enough to familiarize you with the basics. Since Fairytale Games: Battle Royale was never meant to be shrunk down to a demo version, there will be more to it with all the cards present in a regular full game. So what is different?

  • Although there are 8 characters available in the demo kit, you should only play a max of 4 players. The reason behind it is that without enough bonus cards or cards that gear you up with more weapons, armor, action cards, and allies, it would be to drawn out for an 8 player death match.
  • You are only able to sample 4 quests, just so you can get an idea how it works. There are many quests that are available in the game, all of which will help you acquire “legendary” items or “epic” items (by defeating bosses.) The 2 quest branches to win the game without having to get kills, is not part of the demo kit. So if you’re wondering how you can face off against the Trinity, you’ll have to wait for the core game 😉
  • For the kit, we threw a few legendary weapons there just so you can gauge their power. There’s also one Epic Weapon for when you defeat a boss in the demo, but you can try it out if you want. There are a lot of location and landmark location variety missing in the kit. So don’t worry if you don’t see the Jolly Roger or if some of the basic lands are monotonous. We had to tweak some of the card stats to tailor make it to be playable for the demo.
  • There are only 3 minions and 1 boss type in the demo, whereas a lot more are part of the core game. Please ignore some of the card numbers on some of the cards as these were not the final cards.
  • Since November, we’ve made a fair amount of adjustments and edits, especially to some of the grammar and fonts/spacing.
  • Some gameplay mechanics are absent from the demo kit since there aren’t enough of the key cards to use them such as Backstab/Alliance Bonuses and stuff like that. Plus there are a few mechanics that were tweaked for the demo kit which you’ll see in the instructions.

Following the above disclaimer, I have two other important things to give you by the end of this week. Actually, VERY important….. The Demo Kit rules and an Instructional Video! Both will be posted so you can actually play the demo rather than just look at pretty pictures 🙂

For those who are going to print them out, we made a page of “Backs” and followed with the respective card pages. Obviously, you’ll need to use the “Back” files multiple times for all the “Fronts”. Anyway, if you have any questions, please let me know!

And here we go (There are 2 parts):

Refunds for Battle Royale Complete

Another great bit of news is that we’ve finally rounded up the last of the BATTLE ROYALE refunds. If you haven’t received your refund for the Minis Campaign yet, there’s good reason. We haven’t started on them yet. But this week and next, we’ll get to it. As for Battle Royale refunds that have some issues still and you have already sent us an email, rest assured we’ll take care of you this week. For those who missed the October deadline, once again….. we will not be issuing any more refunds. What we CAN offer you, is to post up your abandoned pledge on our online store and send you payment for it if someone pledges for it. But currently, we do have quite a bit of inventory that have been refunded back to us in October.

Which brings me to…..

For those who want to pledge for abandoned pledges…!

We just finished populating our online store and are ready to release them to you. We only uploaded pledges that have been refunded or are in the process of refunds, nothing more. Ah, a VERY important thing to note…. all products will have to have shipping. Because our online store isn’t very innovative, we can’t separate the shipping for purchases from both campaigns. So instead of giving ourselves a headache, we’re going to eat some of the shipping costs. US is free where everywhere else is $25. Raffle Winners

As a follow up from the last update, we’ll be sending out prizes this week. When you do receive them, definitely post up photos of them and tell us all how you like them! If you’re on BGG, you can post some photos on our Fairytale Games page as well. This also gives our fellow backers and new eyes to our universe a better sense of what they look/feel like (rather than just us showing off something that might get assumed as vaporware.)

Production Schedule

This week, I’ll be updating the google doc again. But frankly, we’ve been moving forward steadily so there’s not much to change (except for the internal assignments like posting videos and stuff.) Right now, we’re finishing up with prepping Battle Royale to be sent off to the printers along with some of the spinoff stuff (it should be completely submitted within the next 2-3 weeks in totality, box art and all.) Following, the next “big” thing would be receiving inventory of the Sacred40 minis in March. Those will be actual product and no longer proofs. I am REALLY excited about that.

I think to keep things organized and focused, we’ll be knocking things out one by one rather than scattering among trying to get all items out at one time. So once Battle Royale’s core is out to the printer, we’ll start finalizing Horror Edition. Keep in mind, I am not going to promise a demo kit for that this time around (to avoid shooting myself several times in the foot, face and gut). But you never know…. if it’s within our new time frame, we’ll be more than happy to post one up so you can see the new mechanics incorporated in that version.

To make this less wordy…

Since that was a lot to read, here’s a few iphone photos from our demo kit in action during the holidays.

Next Update

Yep, it’s one you really want to see. Something to see, something to download, really useful and cool stuff like that. See you this weekend!

Oops I forgot! (Continuing from the last update…)

I definitely had too good of a New Years cheer and completely forgot to upload these two minis that were part of the Manufacture Proofs we just received …

If you missed the other minis that we showcased, check our our last update from yesterday here:

For a holiday cheer!

In the spirit of the New Year, we wanted to do something fun. We have put aside some of the minis from this last manufacture proof run and will raffle them out individually to you all. So if you backed ANY of our campaigns, you are automatically entered. We have about 20 minis (including the two minis above) to raffle that will be signed by me to prove authenticity, making a total of 19 winners. Why 1 winner short? Because one winner will get a combo of Dr. Frankenstein and Frankenstein’s monster! (Why break them up, right?)

We’ll be announcing the winners next Wednesday so good luck to all of you and more importantly, wishing you all a wonderful and happy 2015!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hi Everyone,

2014 was definitely a wild one, with many ups and downs. But most of all, a long journey of learning experiences at every turn. We’ve become stronger as a team and hopefully our efforts will begin to show in 2015. There’s a lot of exciting things to come this year and we’re very happy to have you here with us for it.

To kick off the New Year, we have something pretty cool to show you….

And with that, we look forward to bringing you new updates on more campaign goodness as well as a continuing to update you when the manufacture starts shipping it to us. Right now, we are waiting on the last 2 batches of manufacture proofs (one batch will be made from the casts created from the master moulds you saw in our previous update and the other is the batch with Guan Yu in it) then we’ll be good to go! Good to go meaning that the boxes will be created with VAC trays and mass production will begin.

See you all in 2015!

Happy Holidays to you all!

Hi Everyone! Artistic Justice Games would like to wish you all a happy and safe Holiday Season no matter where you are in the world.

Just a quick followup from our last update, we will be waiting a few weeks for the manufacture proofs for the master moulds we posted in our last video. Once approved, I think we have just one more round of sculpts to be made into masters (then getting our manufacture proofs for approvals) before we’re ready to start mass producing them all. We’ll keep you updated as we get them in.

In the meantime, here are some manufacture proofs that we just got in. I was sent these blurry iphone photos but I should be receiving them in my hands for approvals soon and will do close-up photos of them in the next update. Still, here’s a teaser 🙂

Well, it’s back to the egg nog… looking forward to seeing you all in our next update!

Refund Update and Gameplay Element

Hi Everyone, hope you’re all doing well in preparation for the holidays!

I was planning on giving an update early next week, but felt that there has been discussion of pressing concerns I wanted to address now.

REFUNDS FOR BATTLE ROYALE

(IF YOU HAVE REQUESTED A REFUND DURING OR AFTER OCTOBER, READ THIS)

I hope that none of this comes off as too direct, especially since this is a sensitive topic. As you know, we opened refund request for the entire month of October. Although we mentioned that they were case by case, if you asked for it, you pretty much were “green lit” and received an ok.

But here’s the thing. Some of you have been refunded while others are processing. I’ve mentioned a few times via the comment threads as to why the process is so slow. Please allow me to make it a bit more upfront.

The reason for these refund delays is because I am personally taking on freelance jobs on the side to pay for them. All the money raised on KS plus our own company savings, as mentioned during the Battle Royale campaign, went towards the production of the game and all the free stretch goals. Giving refunds in October was and is my personal gesture to make things right with those who do not feel comfortable waiting it through, which is completely understandable.

What I’m saying, for those who are waiting for refunds is that it’s coming but it isn’t appearing out of thin air as I’d really like. (wouldn’t we all?) See, I’m personally invested in the game, the company, and you. But we are a very small company and we are inexperienced. But because we have heart and a true desire to go beyond just throwing it together to say it’s done, we’re going to strive to continue to move forward and master our trade. Still, a lot needs to be improved and it won’t happen overnight or in months. Believe me, we’re still trying to fix our internal problems and strengthen several things we’ve been weak at.

I understand the frustration of expecting refunds and having to wait, especially during the holidays where having that extra cash is great. But please note that I’m honestly trying my best. Clients are being tough to conclude their projects and tack on revision after revisions to my work, mostly because they have a lot of ideas to promote their business during the holidays. But as soon as invoices clear, I refund whoever is next in line for refunds who ALSO made our October deadline. It’s going to take time, but it’s coming.

THOSE WHO MISSED THE OCTOBER DEADLINE

I do apologize but there are no exceptions because it was mentioned in several updates before, during, and after October with the instructions on who to contact. We have a back record of emails and specifically mentioned to send it to Melissa before the deadline. But, we do have a solution for you. We can post your pledge for purchase when we’re done with our online store (another thing we’re working on to facilitate refunds that missed the deadlines). I think we will have this ready fairly soon so please hold on.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Respectfully, there are a couple of instances where refund requests have been posted onto other project comment threads. Please do not do that. Keep it within this project or contact Melissa or myself directly. Doing otherwise will definitely not make your process quicker. Also, please note that the minis campaign refunds will be handled AFTER the Battle Royale ones, which will come after I can get more freelance work completed. Please excuse the wordiness of this but i felt it would be best if you were all in the know!

WHY DIDN’T YOU EXPLAIN THIS IN AN UPDATE BEFORE?

To be honest, with Battle Royale, I personally have family, friends and clients who supported our new endeavor of Artistic Justice Games through this campaign. It’s very embarrassing and hard for me, especially during the holidays to publicly announce that I’m working freelance on the side to pay for refunds that belong to kickstarter projects that are in production (and not vaporware) which had been invested in over a year ago. But I’m announcing it very loudly know because I want you to understand there’s no intent to delay refunds, rather I hope them to be over soon just as much as you all are.

DEMO KIT REDEUX?

The refunds have eaten all my time. I’m sorry to have to say it, but I’m working 100% on freelance to knock these out before I can worry about other internal things outside of actual game related production. But it’s done (about half of the items are in Dropbox just sitting there) and just waiting me to plop the other half of the cards on PDF sheets. So with this said, I look to be finished with refund requests for both campaigns by the end of December. On my off time, possibly during the holidays, I’ll dedicate time into uploading and sharing the Demo Kit link to you.

In the meantime, let me share with you a few elements of the kit (as continuation from last time):

BASIC LOCATION BONUSES

As mentioned in the last update, combat initially will take about 10-15 minutes against a player if you just rush in with no loot or gear. So besides quests, how can you get some?

Basic Location cards are different than Landmarks. All Landmark Locations (like the Emerald City for example) usually have quests for you to start or provide some unique buff or cure/heal ability that effects you instantly.

In this example, the left card “THE SHORE” is a random “Draw a Bonus Card” bonus. Once its resource is used, you would flip it over indicating that you can’t tap into the bonus anymore. The other side shows the same card, but without any text.

The second example “SWAMPS”, you notice there are two cube boxes on top. That is because this location can be extracted for resources twice. But after you extract it once, the next person (even if it’s you) will have to spend two turns on the location to extract it the second time. (Some have 3 so unless you need it… keep moving!)

The third example “FOREST”, shows an Ambush scenario. Once this happens, you’ll enter battle with whatever minion or character that’s specified on the card. If it says a random minion, you’ll have to randomly choose from the minion stack to see which one to enter combat with. Some cards give you the initiative (lets you attack first) while ambush means the enemy attacks first.

EXAMPLE OF A LOWLY MINION

So Minions and Bosses play differently than characters because they are AI. When you begin battle with one, you will still draw your 5 cards from the universal Battle Deck. Although you play cards as you would against a person, AI controlled characters will attack/defend by dice roll. In this example, the wolf is indeed an easy kill. If they roll a 1, 2, or 3 value they just stare at you (intently, I presume). With 4 and 5 they claw you for 1 ATK damage. But if you roll bad and get a 6, they can attack for 1 and add a dice roll on top of it (bleed damage) to shred you. With only 5 Health points and the highest of 3 def, these guys are super easy. They have no known abilities either so it’s a straight kill for a rush to get 1 reputation point and 5 trait points (you can place your trait points in any of your trait slots on your character board.)

But don’t just shrug them off! Obviously, wolves are stronger in packs. So be careful when you roam the forests! Still, minions aren’t meant to bog you down too much, rather just pick at your health before you kill them, giving you more loot to use or your opponent more chances to see an opening to kill you quicker 😛

And of course Bosses have a meaner stat/dice value ratio, some even call in minions to play. With beefy abilities, you know for sure that bosses earn great rewards. Some might be way too tough to defeat alone, so build your alliances with other players carefully 🙂

MOVING RIGHT ALONG

As the year end rushes forward, you’ll be sure to see a lot of things coming together much more diligently and efficiently. Like I said, it’s not going to be an instant change, but a progressive one nonetheless. So far we are still on track with our Google Doc schedule (minus the internal deadlines for reasons mentioned above). The Sacred 40 miniatures are already being produced and with luck, we can get some nice photos from the factory to showcase of the assembly process. Either way, we’ll continue to keep updates and comments current. Have a good night everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Everyone and for those in the United States, Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Today’s update is a quick recap of BGG 2014 and of course, before that some great previews!

For BGG, our manufacture and Greenbrier Games were helping us rush some great new manufacture proofs for you all to see. We brought them along with us to BGG for those interested to see, along with the full Sacred 40 in their finalized box proofs. Ready for an introduction? (Apologies for the poor image quality…. I was using my iphone with a desk lamp at my hotel at the time).

Sacred 40 Update!

During BGG, we gave the green light to begin mass manufacturing of the Sacred 40 minis. I was very excited to see the final box art and VAC trays in person, brought to us by Greenbrier Games at the convention. We’re actually pretty ahead of schedule with these and are estimating to receive inventory for these (in both the Kickstarter Exclusive color and Eternal Grey colors) sometime in May, rather than June. So we can finally cross this off our list to-do and anxiously await photos and news from the manufacture when they have them!

In the meantime, for the BGG convention that just passed, we had 5 more of our Sacred 40 characters painted and I would love to share them with you!

DISCLAIMER: The following is information about the BGG Convention we just attended. This does not have any new information about Fairytale Games: Battle Royale. If you are not interested, you do NOT have to read the following:

With that, I’d love to share with you some memories of the BGGcon 2014! Unlike GenCon, it’s more of a networking and game playing convention versus a hardcore seller’s market. I personally think it’s laid back and a great opportunity to see new games/buzz from different companies and have the chance to play lots of demos and prototypes. Overall, a great convention!

This was our very modest booth we shared with Greenbrier Games. In compilation, we ran demos for Dragon Tides, Ninja Dice, and Heavy Steam. Unfortunately, our copy of Battle Royale didn’t make it in time after a very stupid mix-up at our hotel.

Here, you can see Jeff Gracia demoing Heavy Steam for those who were amazed at the miniatures and game concept. (Do you see our Sacred 40 boxes in the back?)

For those who backed Heavy Steam, there was a crossover mini that was voted on from the Fairytale Games Universe. Greenbrier Games actually brought it along so I could snap a picture and show you all. Presenting the Spring Heeled Jack Mech 🙂

Dragon Tides was demoed about every 2 hours to anyone and everyone who were drawn into our martial arts Arcade tabletop starring Bruce and Brandon Lee!

Plaid Hat games had their showing of Mice and Mystics’s new expansion as well as Dead of Winter (which I really wanted… but still held off since Black Friday sales in America took priority.)

Many drooled over the constant demos of Imperial Assault. Me being one of them. It was really awesome to get a chance to play a little bit after seeing the advertisements at GenCon.

Heroes Wanted was there with a couple of costumed guest stars that made an appearance.

CMON was there demoing and selling several of their games. I was able to see all the extras for Zombicide Season 3 there as well.

Serpent’s Tongue was a very interesting game. I had no idea what it was but those faux leather bound spell books were pretty awesome.

This booth had a rotating group of game demos that were pretty cool. The later being a skirmish of sorts that looked interesting, though I didn’t get a chance to try it out.

iello had a few tables playing games of King of Tokyo and Zombie ’15. I saw a few people play Steam Park in the gamers’ area and they seemed to like it a lot. I was hoping Guardians’ Chronicles would be demoing but alas… maybe next time.

Black Locust had one of the better looking booths at BGG. The guys there were pretty cool.

Level99 Games had lots of things to show off. Besides demos and getting a chance to play against Brad, they were pre-announcing their December campaign for a new Pixel Tactics. I’m really looking forward to that one!

In the lobby of the main hall, there were quite a few dexterity games, mostly homemade and ready for anyone to walk up to and play any time during the convention. It was definitely a great break from the hardcore gaming.

I have no idea what this was or how to play…. I just saw flowers and porcupines 🙂

The Monkey Coconut game was a hit among the casual passerby, though I heard some of the “adults” make comments about the coconuts and what it looked like the Monkeys were throwing instead. But don’t underestimate the challenge here… I couldn’t keep it on the table!

AEG had the biggest surprise to me. I played Love Letter but…. BATMAN LOVELETTER?!?!? From what I hear, the theme is reskinned to show Batman racing to get Arkham Inmates back into Arkham before time runs out? There’s also a Munchkin one called “Loot Letter”.

After hours, many of the developers and publishers took off to play games with fans and their groups in many of the gaming areas in the convention (that pretty much lasted 24 hours each day.)

A couple of popular games were constantly checked out of the Game Library and seen in the halls. One of which was Hyperboria, which was a light Euro game in a fantasy setting.

And that’s a wrap with BGG 2014! Enjoy these photos while we start getting ready for our next update after returning from our long weekend!

Getting ready for BGG.con!

Hi Everyone! BGG.con (Board Game Geek Convention) is right around the corner and we’re getting ready for it as we speak. Just wanted to give you a quick message to let you know we’re still on track with filming our gameplay videos as well as are quickly trying to prepare the completely revised demo kit for you all. My goal is to make sure that you at least have gameplay videos to watch while you print out these demo kits. As well, I look forward to posting up more artwork and card mechanics for you all to see for discussions!

Refund Questions!

Sadly, we are still processing refunds requests. So if you have not yet received an e-mail from Melissa about whether you’ve been approved and are bing processed, have no fear. We’re a bit bogged down with them so it’s been taking some time. There are also some complicated ones as some were pledged for via PayPal, KS, Pledge Manager, etc.

Some of you who backed both Battle Royale and our Minis Campaign, please note that these will be two separate refunds in order to ensure we don’t completely mess up our system.

On the flipside, I’ve had several backers interested in picking up the abandoned pledges. We are also working on getting that ready and making it available right after the completion of the refunds. Once we’re green lit, I’ll make an official announcement.

Board Game Geek

I think I mentioned it in a previous update, but we will be sharing a booth with Greenbrier Games at the convention. We will most likely do a short raffle for some goodies once again. Those who are backers for ANY of our campaigns (this includes Martial Arts: The Card Game as well as Dragon Tides) are automatically entered. If you’re able to make it to the convention, you can enter a separate “on the scene” raffle as well. Both raffles are equivalent prizes to give those who can’t make it a chance to win something cool 🙂

We’ll also demo Fairytale Games: Battle Royale although there won’t be event tickets like at GenCon. Instead, we’ll be hosting demos at the gaming area from time to time (for an actual schedule, you can sign up at our booth!) As well, we’ll be demoing Dragon Tides and maybe more of our games. If you’re able to make it, please stop on by. I’d love to meet you and thank you in person for your support!

Ok, I’ll see you all in an update very soon., Have a great night!

New Mini WIPs….. Say Cheese!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all are having a great week so far! Today’s update though a bit short is still very exciting. If you remember, we still have a few minis to show off, those being the cheesecake ones and the Undead Viking. So without further a do, let’s take a look at the WIPs!

As you may recall from our first campaign, these are just a teaser for things to come in the future. If we have these 3 characters again, it’ll be different poses/stylization to fit a future art theme. So consider these our “Limited” Cheesecakes 🙂

Board Game Geek Convention

In other news, if you hadn’t heard, we’ll also be attending BGG this year and will be at Booth#315. We’ll be demoing a few of our games (Fairytale Games: Battle Royale, Dragon Tides, Martial Arts the Card Game) as well as displaying some of our miniatures there (painted and unpainted). If you’re able to make it out to Dallas to the event, we’d love to see you there!

DISCLAIMER: The following is not related to the Battle Royale campaign, per se, but may be of interest. It’s an optional read.

Just to follow up from last update regarding offering Snow, Goldielocks, Hua Mulan, and Red as part of a Fairytale Angels add-on to incorporate into the Bruce/Brandon Lee tabletop game, Dragon Tides. We wanted to make use of the minis so that they could be used in yet another game, giving your minis more diversity and playability.

A lot of you are for it, but because there were about a quarter who were not, we decided against doing so. Instead, we will incorporate 4 characters from our Minis Campaign (non exclusive) to be used in Dragon Tides. Instead, they will be Brunhilde, Esmeralda, Briar Rose, and Cinderella. Included will be their signature move cards and character boards which will make them playable in Dragon Tides.

If you happen to be a backer for Dragon Tides, you will automatically receive the 24 signature move cards and 4 player boards for these 4 characters for free so you do not have to purchase them in the add-ons (unless you want extras.)

Thank you so much for your suggestions and as mentioned, the intentions for bringing this up last time was to be as honest and open to you all as I can.

Also, for those of you who are fans of Level99 Games, we are less than 3k short of unlocking Cherri Seneca from the BattleCon Universe.
